Biography

David Gottfried serves as the Director of the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) and Government Relations for Alfred University and the New York State College of Ceramics.  In this role, Gottfried leads the business development efforts of CACT, one of New York State’s fifteen Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT) funded and managed by Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR).

CACT supports a wide range of applied research programming within New York State’s technical ceramics and glass fields, including analytical services, sponsored research, workforce development, state and federal funding proposal development, and other economic development activities. Gottfried also works to advance broader institutional priorities through advocacy efforts at the state, local, and federal levels, working in partnership with retained representation.

Prior to joining Alfred in 2016, Gottfried was Manager of Government & Community Relations at a NYSTAR Center of Excellence (COE), the Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center (STC) (formerly Infotonics Technology Center).  This COE was focused on the development of advanced semiconductor technologies, specifically micro electromechanical systems, or MEMS. 

He currently sits on the Board of Directors of IncubatorWorks, a private, non-profit business incubator with facilities in Alfred, Corning, and Elmira, NY; the Board of Directors of LifeSciencesNY, a non-profit membership organization focused on promoting New York’s life sciences sector, is Treasurer for the Western New York Section of the American Ceramics Society (ACerS); participates in the workforce development and semiconductor committees of the U.S. Advanced Ceramics Association (USACA), and is on the Board of the Rochester Numismatic Association.  He lives in a 200-year-old farmhouse in the Rochester, NY suburb of Greece with his 17-year-old daughter, currently a student pursuing nursing at St. John Fisher University, and his 16-year-old son who is a junior in the Greece school district.
